- Use at any time of day but use in the morning if you have issues with insomnia (the bright light can cause circadian rhythm issues; alternatively, use dark eye goggles in the evening and it will help you sleep.
- Use before adding lotions and makeup
- Take a photo in the same lighting every day to measure your results
- Use a ruler to measure 6 inches to your target skin (head, neck, etc.)

- Use for 3 minutes for each session, build up to as many as 20 minutes (10 minutes is usually fine but some people push the limits. Do not do more than 20 minutes a session).

The studies I cited in this article used between 6 joules and 66 joules, and all got good results. To emulate that with your MitoPRO 300, you use the lamp at a 6-inch distance for 2.2 to 24.4 minutes.

The way I got that was just to divide the target joules (6) by the MitoPRO’s joules value (2.7) = 2.2 minutes; and then again the target joules (66) by the MitoPRO’s value (2.7) = 24.4 minutes.
That’s a really healthy range, you should expect results if you use the light for 5 minutes, for 10 minutes, and for 24 minutes.
Exactly what results you get for a given session length is still something the science is defining.
Will you get enough light with 3 minutes’ exposure? Will you get enough in 15 minutes? These questions are still under review. Yes, you will get enough light. The only question is if you are getting an ideal amount of light.
So the best way to deal with it is to work up to more and more light and keep a photographic record of your skin.
Start with 6 joules, and work up to 66 joules over a matter of weeks.
And bring a ruler to your therapy, because people don’t realize how hard it is to measure distance at this close range, so it REALLY helps to measure 6 inches from the light to your target skin.

Scientifically Proven Ways that Red Light Therapy Erases Wrinkles
The MitoPRO 300 is an excellent wrinkle therapy light that you can also use for pain relief and exercise recovery. You can’t do that with a face mask, but you could do that with a different tabletop with the same specs.
The key, in my mind, is that the MitoPRO comes from Mito Red Light, the company that the copycats copy and then sell their copies on Alibaba. Those devices could have any number of discrepancies between what they CLAIM and what they ARE.
I can think of a brand or two I like as much as Mito Red Light, but I cannot think of one I like more. I don’t think you can do better than to get the MitoPRO for your wrinkle therapy.

Red light therapy acts like a sunscreen: When the red and infrared photons absorb in the cells, they block ultraviolet light from absorbing into the skin! The effect is approximately the same as an SPF-15 sunscreen. That’s enough protection to stop wrinkle-forming UV exposure for 15 minutes per treatment.

Red light therapy’s collagen and elastin production tightens skin and reduces lines: Red light therapy also promotes elastin, the protein that causes sagging skin to bounce back when we’re young. The collagen creates a tightening effect that irons out wrinkles, and the elastin tightens up the neck and jowls.

So what do you do with this information?
There are a range of wavelengths that help with rejuvenation and wrinkles.
What I didn’t show you is that the majority of science focuses on the red and infrared ranges.
It is not that they’re the best, it’s that we have the most science showing they work.
They might or might not be the best wavelengths, scientists are still working on answering that question. But they are the best that we know about right now, so that’s what you should use.
You should also keep in mind that light-emitting diodes (LEDs) output a wide range of wavelengths.
If you get a 660 nm (which is a 660-nanometer wavelength, and that’s a shade of red) lamp, it doesn’t just output 660 nm red. It outputs about 560 to 760 nm, with most of the energy going into 660 nm, but a lot of it going into 650 nm and 670 nm, a little less into 640 nm and 680 nm. and so forth.
In other words, with a 660 nm LED, for example, you are some 560 nm light, some 570 nm light, some 580 nm light… it’s a range that extends below 660 nm and above 660 nm.
Those other wavelengths are almost always bioactive, so they work in harmony to reduce lines and wrinkles.
Which Irradiance Levels Erase Fine Lines and Wrinkles?
“Irradiance” is the amount of photon energy delivered to the target from a given distance.
So you want to ask yourself (and literally measure with a ruler), are you 6 inches from the light? Are you 24 inches away? The closer you are, the more photon-light energy you will absorb.
Most red light therapy manufacturers list their irradiance values at 6 inches. You have to be 6 inches from the device for their irradiance value to apply to your therapy session. You get a totally different dose if you’re 24 inches away. And you don’t know what your dose is at 24 inches without doing some inverse square law math. And who wants to do that?
You want to get the dosage from the manufacturer for this reason. It’s not about watts or anything you can read on the box. It’s the amount of photon energy that hits your face each minute.
A great problem in the red light therapy universe is companies overstating their devices’ irradiance as a flex, to look better than the competition. They intentionally use solar meters for LED lights to get much higher irradiance values than they would if they used the right (LED, not solar) meter.
Mito Red Light solved this problem by third-party certifying the exact amount of energy you will receive from their lights. A third party warrants that these values are accurate, and so you can calculate exactly the dose you want from your device.
