Why Use a Red Light Therapy Panel?
The red light therapy panel accelerates healing because it treats the most cells per session.
The red light therapy panel design excels at delivering the most light to the largest area.
A full-body panel treats the entire front or entire back of your body all at once.
In as little as ten minutes, the panel energizes billions of cells containing trillions of energy-creation factories.
Who Should Use a Panel?
If any of these sentences sound like you (or someone for whom you need to buy a gift), then the red light therapy panel is the right device to buy:
- “I am so tired.”
- “My muscles are so sore.”
- “My face and neck have wrinkles.”
The panel design makes it ideal for large-area treatments including:
- faster exercise recovery
- tired muscle and arthritis pain relief
- reduced and eliminated delayed onset muscle soreness
- better sleep and more energy
- faster and more complete wound healing
- wrinkle reduction
- skin rejuvenation
- acne relief
- natural collagen production to support the skin
- natural elastin production to tighten the skin
Why Treat with Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy supports health. The more light you can expose yourself to per session, the faster you will see results. Panels expose you to the most light every session.
Red light therapy has many healthy effects. The underlying processes that yield tighter skin and less pain include three major cellular changes:
- reduces antioxidant damage
- increases blood flow
- gives cells the ability to make more biological energy
A small red light therapy does that for some cells.
A panel does that for a whole body’s worth of cells.
Red light therapy panels produce more antioxidant activity, more blood flow, and more energy-creation than other therapy device designs.
Panels Put Out More Free Radical Fire
Our cells have thousands of energy factories to make ATP, which act like trillions of batteries to power our movement, thinking, and the work our organs do.

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) provides 90% of our biological energy.
The electron transport chain is like a pinball game using electrons.
Electrons from food go in one end, and packets of ATP come out the other.
A sloppy and unfortunate side effect of our energy factory work is the production of free radicals.
A free radical is a dangerous molecule missing an electron in its outer orbit. Free radicals are unstable. They rip up DNA, cause mutations, and injury cells.
Aged mitochondria make more free radicals than younger ones.
Red light therapy turns back the clock on mitochondria so that we make fewer radicals after therapy.
The light from red light therapy targets the electron transport chain in the mitochondria.
The light allows us to make MORE energy with fewer free radicals produced.
Red light therapy reduces free radicals by:
- triggering antioxidant defenses
- repairing the energy factory tissue so it operates more efficiently
With red light therapy, energy-creation produces fewer free radicals and more antioxidants.
The more of your body that receives this healthy light, the more energy you will get from each session.
Panels prevent more free radicals because they send more light to the body’s surface.
Panels Energize More Cells
Red light therapy gives the body light energy to help turn food into biological energy.
The more light the body receives, the more biological energy it can make.
Panels give bodies the most light, so panels help create the most biological energy.
The aging process that creates free radicals also takes the energy-factories (mitochondria) offline.

The mitochondria that produce energy absorb the photons of healing light.
With the light’s electrons, the electron transport chain carries more electrons and then produces more ATP.
The more light the body receives in a session, the more of these mitochondria absorb photons (packets of light) that heal the energy-creation process.
We have trillions of cells that host hundreds to thousands of mitochondria.
That means red light therapy panels can energize trillions of energy factories every session.
Panels Relieve Pain in More Muscles
Red light therapy triggers collagen creation, reduces inflammation, and blunts pain.
Large red light therapy panels deliver more light to replicate protein and reduce inflammation and pain.

Exercise depletes muscle oxygen and causes lactic acid buildup.
Red light therapy re-oxygenates the muscles with improved blood flow.
It does this by moving nitric oxide from the energy factories in the cells to the arteries.
Nitric oxide is a powerful vasodilator that opens the blood vessels.
Flowing blood brings oxygen and nutrition to tired muscles.
The muscles repair faster and with less soreness, because they have the oxygen and nutrition they need.
Red light therapy also has an effect similar to Ibuprofen by reducing inflammation.
In addition, it acts like aspirin in blocking the pain signals.
What Features Make the Best Red Light Therapy Panel?
I am looking at these features when deciding which red light therapy panel is best:
- a BELIEVABLE dosing specification of irradiance, fluence, or time
- a good price
- treatment area: the wider and taller devices treat more of you at once
- red wavelengths in the 630 nm to 660 nm range
- infrared wavelengths in the 810 to 880 nm range
- a two-year or more warranty
- a 60 day or more return window
A Believable (Hopefully Verified) Irradiance Value
Red light therapy works, but not if you get the wrong dose. Too little and too much light are useless.
Vendors work in the commercial world where marketing psychology tells them to claim MORE POWER than their competitors.

Red light therapy is the low energy delivery of light.
We usually assume that more energy is better.
Vendors compete with one another to brag about their powerful devices.
If you use the stated power to determine your session time, you will not get enough light.
Most lights are much weaker than stated.
You can learn how Mito Red Light found a way to stay competitive and still give us accurate power by reading my article: How Mito Red Light Solved the Thorny Problem of Irradiance.
Less than a handful of vendors give us accurate dosing information in the form of irradiance, fluence, or time per session at a specific distance.
- Mito Red Light MitoMEGA: verified fluence (excellent)
- CytoLED: verified irradiance (excellent)
- Bestqool: Time (good)
- LightpathLED: Time (good)
What do these values mean?
There are three possible ways to calculate treatment time.
- irradiance
- treatment time at a given distance
- fluence
Only one vendor gives proper irradiance.
The majority offer inflated irradiance values to look competitive to uninformed consumers.
Bigger irradiance is not better, but people think it is.
Vendors overstate the irradiance of their devices. Therefore, we are not even going to discuss irradiance.
Time per session at a given distance tells us a recommended treatment time, but not the dose received during that session.

Bestqool and LightpathLED tell us 10 minutes at 6 inches.
We do not know the dose delivered during those 10 minutes.
So it is helpful, but not overly so. Is that a small or a large amount of light delivered? We do not know.
CytoLED use a proper spectrometer to measure their device’s irradiance. While you need to do a little bit of math to calculate session time, kudos to CytoLED for having the bravery to state real rather than inflated irradiance values.
A CytoLED Pentaplex 6 inch irradiance is about 39 mW/cm^2, which translates to 2.34 joules per minute.
Notice that the MitoMEGA offers 2.8 joules per minute.
This shows how close these panels are in light output.
Mito Red Light gives us the fluence at 6 inches. That is, 2.8 joules per sq. cm. every minute at 6 inches.
With CytoLED’s 2.34 joules and Mito Red Light’s 2.8 joules, we can calculate treatment times based on how many joules we want.
Most of the science says to treat between 5 and 60 joules.
There are successful studies using fractions of a joule, and successful studies using a few hundred joules.
Those are outliers, so let’s go with the values that repeatedly create healthy responses.
For CytoLED, here are the treatment times at 6 minutes using the 2.34 joules fluence:
- On the short side, a 5 joules dose is 5 (joules) / 2.34J/minute = 1.79 minutes at 6 inches
- On the long side, a 60 joules dose is 60 (joules) / 2.34J/minute = 25.6 minutes at 6 inches
For Mito Red Light, here are the treatment times at 6 minutes using the 2.8 joules fluence:
- On the short side, a 5 joules dose is 5 (joules) / 2.8 J/minute = 1.75 minutes at 6 inches
- On the long side, a 60 joules dose is 60 (joules) / 2.8J/minute = 21.42 minutes at 6 inches
The competing panels do not include dosing info on their web pages:

A Large Treatment Area
The larger the treatment area, the more of your skin surface receives light. That gives the light more opportunities to block free radical damage, open blood vessels and create biological energy.
The panel area sizes in this review range from 298 sq. in. to 432 sq. in.
The MitoMEGA panel I recommend has a 432 sq. in. treatment area.

Red Light Therapy Wavelengths
Science supports using 630-660 nm and 810-880 nm wavelength ranges.
That is not to say there are no wavelengths outside these ranges that work.
It just means that the bulk of the research is within these ranges.
The panels we are comparing in this review have the right wavelengths for healing skin, brain and body.
LightpathLED’s 930 nm and Red Light Man’s 760 nm are interesting additions that biohackers will enjoy.
All panels have decent wavelengths for skin, pain relief and exercise recovery.

Generous Return Window with No Restocking Fees
I understand that vendors sometimes charge restocking fees for healthcare items.
This makes sense if the user can gunk up a product with their DNA and skin cells.
Panels are pretty clean, as these things go.
You do not lean on them or put them on your head.
So long as you send back all pieces, the vendor can sanitize them and sell them again.
Customers are taking a risk buying red light therapy panels.
They are concerned whether the devices will work for their health issues.
I do understand, however, a restocking fee if not all the panel’s pieces return to the vendor.
Then a restocking fee could be in order.
Restocking fees in this review run from 0% to 25%.

The Best Red Light Therapy Panel
The Mito Red Light MitoRED MitoMEGA is the best red light therapy panel I recommend.
The MitoMEGA has a huge treatment surface area of 432 sq. in. This treats more of your skin each second.
The MEGA stuffs 300 LEDs into that panel front, giving you a whopping amount of light energy every second you treat.

The wavelengths are standard 660 nm red and 850 nm infrared. These are perfect for skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, pain relief, exercise recovery, and preventing delayed onset muscle soreness.
The MitoMEGA specifications include fluence, the value that tells us exactly how to dose.
As I pointed out above, a certified fluence is the best value a company can give you to determine treatment times.
- On the short side, a 5 joules dose is 5 (joules) / 2.8 J/minute = 1.75 minutes at 6 inches
- On the long side, a 60 joules dose is 60 (joules) / 2.8J/minute = 21.42 minutes at 6 inches
The MitoMEGA warranty is two years, and the return period is 60 days.
There is no restocking fee for returns.
At $949.05, the MitoMEGA is in the Cheaper Bucket compared to panels in this review.
The Mito is the ONLY one of two panels in this report that gives you the info you need to create your own protocols.

The Bestqool Y-200 Red Light Therapy Panel
The Bestqool Y-200 is the cheapest panel on this list at $569.05 after using coupon code RED for 5% off. It has a smaller but very doable 298 sq. in. treatment area and a respectable 200 LEDs.

Bestqool gives a treatment time recommendation, which helps with dosing, but is not as good as a certified fluence that Mito Red Light gives.
The warranty is a respectable two years, but the restocking fee of 25% pushes it off the “best” list.

The EMR-TEK Inferno Red Light Therapy Panel
The Inferno has four wavelength peaks. If all other factors were equal, this feature might give this panel an edge.
Since LED lights are actually ranges of wavelengths, specifying multiple peaks gives a small advantage to biohackers looking for specific wavelengths, but it is not that meaningful to the average user.
EMR-TEK does not state the LED count.
The dosing information is time at 6 inches, which is useful but doesn’t tell us about other possible doses. Validated fluence or irradiance would give us that.
However, the company has an excellent reputation and a spectacular price at $639.99 after using the RED coupon code.
Giving the EMR-TEK a 30-day trial has no risk besides the cost to ship it back.
I know people who use EMR-TEK, and they are very happy with this brand’s devices.

The Red Light Man Combo Bodylight 2.0 Red Light Therapy Panel
Red Light Man is the most popular vendor in the United Kingdom, based on referrals from my website.
The Combo Bodylight 2.0 red light therapy panel has four wavelengths.
Normally, I do not put too much stock in multiple wavelengths, as all lights with red and infrared have ranges of wavelengths.

In this case, however, the 760 nm is unique amongst the competition in this review.
760 nm might have properties that red and infrared lower and higher in the spectrum do not have. This biohacker feature stands out with this panel.
Without a dosing specification, it is hard to say exactly how to use the Bodylight. Given a 30-day return period with 0% restocking fees, it is safe to try this trusted vendor.

The LightpathLED Pro Large Red Light Therapy Panel
LightpathLED is a popular vendor for this website, and the Pro Large is a solid offering with a three-year warranty, a 60-day return period and no restocking fee.
The multiple wavelengths are a minimal advantage over other panel features, but I do respect the 930 nm outlier and recommend this panel for that feature. 930 nm sparks a different subset of healthy triggers in the cellular arena, giving the Pro Large an advantage over other panels. Biohackers should look at this panel for that reason.

The Pro Large has 216 LEDs and a respectable 324 sq. in. treatment surface area.
The LightpathLED is about $50 cheaper than the recommended MitoMEGA after using discount code RED for 5% off.
