MitoADAPT Review: Anti-Aging Red Light Therapy Panels for 2023
My wrinkles first appeared around my eyes around my 40th birthday, My youthful glow was fading.
I wasn’t ready for injections or surgery, so I started researching natural ways to turn back the clock.
Red light therapy wasn’t even a thing to most people back then (I’m 60+ now).
Now we have Star Trek devices that heal with light.

Mito Red Light’s MitoADAPT series of panels made my “best of” list of anti-wrinkle red light therapy devices.
This is the in-depth review of how the MitoADAPT reduces lines, wrinkles, and folds, as well as age spots, melasma, and acne scars, by the way.
I’ve done the research for you. Now you just need to decide which size MitoADAPT you will buy.
Are you thinking about buying red light therapy for anti-aging? Do you want a therapy machine that wrinkles, lines, and folds while smoothing out your skin’s color?
In this MitoADAPT review, we’ll compare the machine’s wavelengths and power to anti-aging science studies to see if this is a good option for anti-aging therapy.

MitoADAPT is a line of light therapy panels from Mito Red Light, one of the most popular red light therapy device companies on the planet.
If it has the right specifications for wrinkle reduction and cell turnover, this might just be the anti-aging device you’re looking for.
The two major uses for MitoADAPT are anti-aging and pain relief.
Hi and welcome. I’m Carol, and I’ve been studying and experimenting with wellness therapies for several years. I write summaries of scientific studies on non-invasive healing and pain relief devices and review devices such as the MitoADAPT to help you choose the right solutions for your specific needs.

The MitoADAPT Review
What is the MitoADAPT Series of Red Light Panels?
MitoAdapt is a line of light therapy panels from Mito Red Light, a popular therapy company.
The MitoADAPT family includes the MIN tabletop, the MID half-body light, and the MAX full-body panel.
They output orange, red, and infrared light that encourages the skin to heal.
You probably already know that the benefits of red light therapy include enhanced cellular function.
It increases adenosine triphosphate, the body’s “battery.” This gives the skin more energy for cell turnover, collagen and elastin production, and repair.
It energizes the skin to heal itself.

Devices have different colors (wavelengths) of light that have different effects. The MitoADAPT wavelengths include red and near-infrared (NIR) light as follows:
- 810 nm and 850 nm infrared
- 760-900 nm infrared
- 630 nm and 660 red
- 590-700 nm orange and red
So this is a wide range of wavelengths that concentrates on 630 nm and 660 nm red, and 810 nm and 850 nm infrared, but also includes a swath of colors in the orange, red, and infrared ranges (590-700 nm and 760 nm to 900 nm).

This means you’re hitting a wider range of possible therapeutic responses than you would from using just two wavelengths.

MitoADAPT Features
11 Preset Wavelength Combinations
The wavelength selection feature is big news for biohackers, but maybe it’s a bell and whistle you don’t need for anti-aging.
There are 11 preset programs that combine red and infrared in different proportions.
If your first goal is to replace lines and wrinkles with collagen and new cells, you’ll use Program #1, which is a healthy split of red and near-infrared light.
For the biohacker, the 11 combinations of wavelengths allow you to test different proportions of red to infrared.
Take a look at the user manual here on page 16, or look at this image to see the wavelength setups.
My suggestions for using the MitoADAPT programmed wavelengths are in the table below
Mode 1: 630, 660, 810, 850: use for tighter, smoother skin; joint health; reducing pain; and anti-inflammatory effects
Mode 2: 630, 660: Use if you are one of the unlucky but thankfully very small subset of people who get melasma responses to red light therapy.
I will tell you that this is only my opinion, but my theory is that people who have this response are too close to the lamp, and are having a heat response. Your choices are to turn off near-infrared and back away several inches to reduce heat.
Modes 9, 10, and 11: Use these to run near-infrared without red light in order to cut down on the brightness. This protects your eyes from the very bright light because infrared is almost invisible and so does not activate the eye cells the same way as a bright red light does.
Mobile App is a Remote Control
The mobile app is also a remote control allowing you to turn on and off the device from anywhere in the room.
This is more useful than it might sound at first.
You can get yourself settled into a nice, comfortable spot.
Don your eye protection, and get your audiobook or music playing.
Then click the power button from your mobile app to start your session.
It’s a little luxury but it’s pretty nice.
How Does the MitoADAPT Light Therapy Work?
The MitoADAPT bathes you in healing red and infrared light therapy that has significant anti-aging benefits
These wavelengths stimulate the mitochondria, which are responsible for producing energy within the cells.
The skin responds to light with collagen and elastin production, as well as skin turnover.
The collagen replaces lines and folds with fresh, healthy skin.
The elastin tightens the skin.
The cell turnover gives the skin a healthy glow.

Benefits of Using MitoAdapt
The MitoADAPT’s therapeutic spectrum makes it an excellent skin and pain relief light.
Besides anti-aging, the MitoADAPT is also programmed to reduce scars and age spots.
While it will help with acne reduction, it falls short of being an ideal acne device because it does not have blue wavelengths.

Next, you can use the MitoADAPT for muscle recovery after exercise.
The light triggers the production of cellular energy (adenosine triphosphate or ATP) and these molecules allow the muscles to repair much faster.
Third, the MitoADAPT has perfect wavelengths for pain relief from muscle soreness and arthritis.
Who Can Use the MitoADAPT
Because it has such a wide range of wavelengths, the MitoADAPT is suitable for a wide range of uses.
The two major uses for MitoADAPT are anti-aging and pain relief.
The MitoAdapt MIN, MID, and MAX are excellent choices for anyone looking for effective exercise recovery, muscle soreness relief, and a boost in energy levels.

These lights are ideal for:
- wrinkle, scar, and melasma reduction (see note below about melasma)
- pain relief, especially from exercise and arthritis
Red Light for Melasma: We Need to Talk About Pigment
Most of the time, red light therapy reduces hyperpigmentation (also known as melasma). Some individuals have a contrary response to infrared. They can actually form new melasma while simultaneously reducing existing patches.
If you have problems with pigment, START SLOWLY. Use the light for only a few minutes each day, and monitor your skin.
If it turns out that you are one of the few that responds with more pigment, then use the RED but not the INFRARED (marked “NIR”) on the affected area.
You might introduce infrared after several weeks of using only red light.
How to Choose a MitoADAPT Panel
The MIN, MID, and MAX models are a tabletop, a half-body treatment, and a full-body light therapy panel.
To treat just the face for skin rejuvenation, get the MitoaADAPT MIN.

For body therapy, the MID requires you to do four sessions to reach the upper and lower front and then the upper and lower back side of your body.
The MAX requires just two sessions, one for the whole front and another for the whole back of your body.
All three models have the advanced red light multi-wavelength design, digital control panel, and adjustable timer.
Each has the eleven red and NIR wavelength combinations to give you the health benefits of new skin and less inflammation.

MitoADAPT Red Light Therapy FAQ
What is MitoADAPT and how is it different from previous Mito Red Light devices?
MitoADAPT is the evolution of the MitoPRO line that features 11 preset programs for anti-aging and pain relief.
How does MitoADAPT work and what are its key benefits?
MitoADAPT is a red light therapy device. Red light therapy stimulates the mitochondria to make cellular energy. It opens blood flow and signals cells to reduce chronic inflammation. In the skin, it promotes cell turnover and collagen/elastin production for smoother, younger-looking skin. Daily use should bring about pain relief as well.
Can you explain the eleven different possible modes available in MitoADAPT?
The MitoADAPT program modes are diferent combinations of red and infrared wavelengths. Mode 1 is an equal distribution of red and infrared light. Mode 1 is for anti aging and pain relief.
Mode 2 is all red light without infrared. People who have an adverse pigment reaction to red light therapy should use Mode 2.
There are more recommendations for the MitoADAPT modes above in this article.
Is MitoADAPT easy to use?
Yes, MitoADAPT is designed to be easy to use, as long as you’re comfortable pairing its Bluetooth with your phone. The mobiel app acts as a remote control and allows you to choose the mode as well.
How is the power output of MitoADAPT measured?
Although the power is measured in watts, the power relevant to anti-aging is the irradiance and fluence. Mito Red Light admits its irradiance numbers are more “marketing” than anything else, which is why they also supply a certified fluence value. You get 3 joules per minute when standing 6 inches from your light. You want to aim for 20-60 joules, so your treatment time is 3 to 10 minutes.
Is MitoADAPT suitable for all skin types?
Yes, MitoADAPT can be used on all skin types. It is the perfect specification for anti-aging therapy, and will have a significant effect on acne as well. Acne does best if you also add a blue light that MitoADAPT does not have.
Can MitoADAPT help with reducing wrinkles?
Yes, MitoADAPT can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The red and infrared light energy emitted by the device stimulates collagen production, which can result in smoother and more youthful-looking skin.
How long should each red light therapy session with MitoADAPT last?
Each session should be between three and ten minutes.
Is MitoADAPT safe to use and does it emit harmful radiation?
The MitoADAPT panels emit EMFs but are undetectable so long as you maintain a distance of 6 inches. This is true of every red light therapy device that runs on A/C rather than battery power.
