What is Vielight, and Why Do You Want a Vielight Device?
Vielight is a wellness device company headquartered in Toronto. Studies show significant correlations between using Vielight devices with symptom reduction in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
The Vielight Neuro Gamma is the gold standard for dementia red light therapy. Its specifications are based on significant gains in memory, cognition, and neural connectivity in several dementia studies.

Vielight Neuro Gamma
The Vielight Neuro Gamma is a cutting-edge device designed to support cognitive health and has been particularly recommended for those seeking to reduce symptoms of dementia.
It operates through a process known as photobiomodulation, an approach that involves the use of light (specifically near-infrared) to stimulate cellular function.
This device stands out for its unique 40 Hz gamma pulsation, a frequency that has been scientifically linked with increased gamma brainwave activity. These gamma brainwaves are crucial in memory and attention functions, and their enhancement can significantly contribute to the improvement of dementia symptoms.
The 40 Hz pulsation doesn’t just promote brainwave activity but also plays an essential role in triggering the activity of microglia. Microglia are the brain’s maintenance cells that, once activated, help in clearing out neural debris and plaques that often accumulate in dementia cases. Thus, by stimulating microglial cleanup activity, the Vielight Neuro Gamma is thought to alleviate the burden of accumulated waste products in the brain.
The device is non-invasive, easy to use, and can be integrated into a home-based care plan.

What Vielight Neuro Devices Do
Red light therapy (for which “photobiomodulation” is the term you want to research in the literature) is the non-invasive, drug-free delivery of therapeutic light to create healthy changes in the brain and body.

Vielight devices provide red light therapy (also known as photobiomodulation, low-level laser therapy, and cold laser) to the brain and to the capillary network above the nose.
Studies show that the use of these devices correlates with significant improvements n memory, cognition, depression, and anxiety.
The History of Vielight’s Technology
Red light therapy was accidentally discovered in a Hungarian lab in 1967. It has been studied in the decades since to the tune of over 9,000 papers published in the scientific literature.
Used extensively for wound healing, hair growth, cancer treatment side effect remediation, and skincare, red light therapy has many positive effects on the brain.
What I call “red light therapy” has had 70 names in the 60 years of its study. Only in 2017 did a group of scientists and researchers decide on “photobiomodulation” as a unified name.
Meanwhile, the marketplace grew to call it “red light therapy.”
The red light therapy market is exploding, now, because we have reached critical mass on several fronts.
On the scientific front, researchers determined that certain wavelengths of infrared light are absorbed in the mitochondria, which are organelles in every cell.
The majority of the research focuses on the light’s absorption in the electron transport chain of the mitochondria.
Some of the infrared wavelengths of light probably absorb elsewhere in the mitochondria, with the current theory being that mitochondrial water absorbs these higher wavelengths.
On the commercial front, a 2000 NASA study revealed that light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were as effective as lasers at delivering bioactive quantities of light.
The ability to use cheaper LEDs over expensive lasers lowered the barrier to entry into the device market.
Skincare companies made lights to encourage cell turnover and collagen production for rejuvenation, as well as wrinkle and acne reduction.
Pain relief companies made lights to block prostaglandin production and inhibit COX-2 (the same mechanism for pain relief as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories).

Dr. Lew Lim started a project at Stanford University in the 1990s that became Vielight in 2011. His inventions became the Vielight devices that were studied in several experiments on Alzheimer, Parkinson’s, and brain injury subjects.
How Vielight Helps Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Symptoms
A 2017 series of case reports showed that a Vielight device significantly reduced the severity of dementia in five people.
The results were so significant that the subjects’ diagnoses were lowered from severe to moderate, or from moderate to mild.
This was based on the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS-cog) and Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) objective tests of disease severity.
Observable symptom reduction included less wandering, fewer angry outbursts, less expression of anxiety, elimination of nightmares, and longer sleep durations.
A 2019 case report of eight subjects confirmed the 2017 study results and added imaging data to the outcome.
Vielight users experienced increased brain blood flow, and measurably stronger connectivity amongst various parts of the brain.
A 2021 study of Vielight’s effect on Parkinson’s again confirmed the cognitive gains of the previous studies and found a significant reduction in the severity of Parkinson’s movement symptoms.
After 12 weeks of Vielight therapy, the subjects were objectively assessed to have greater stability when standing, sitting, turning, walking, and carrying water; a cognitively stronger result when counting backward by two; less reliance on balance devices; and had longer strides per walking step.
In 2021, I published an article documenting over a hundred facts about red light therapy studies on brain performance.
This article not only describes the studies I just mentioned in greater detail, but it also explains the mechanisms by which red light therapy has these effects.

The Neuro Gamma is the Best for Most People
Studies on Vielight Alpha and Gamma showed little difference between the outcomes. The specifications of these devices differ only on where the light is targeted, and the rate at which the light pulses.
So why is the Gamma superior to the Alpha?
The Gamma fulfills a need that is not much discussed about neurodegenerative diseases.
In many people with neurodegenerative diseases, the neural firing in and around the 40 Hz range is weak.
Such brains do not produce brainwaves in the gamma range. That deficit correlates with cognitive decline.
The brain likes to follow frequency, also known as an entrainment response. When in the presence of the 40 Hz infrared light, the brain starts firing neurons 40 times per second.
The increased firing at this rate raises the amplitude of the gamma brainwaves.
It is thought that the synchronous firing might be responsible for some of the gains seen using the Vielight Neuro Gamma.

Neuro Device Wavelengths
The Alpha and Gamma emit 810 nm infrared, the most absorbable wavelength in the brain.
Tested in multiple studies for efficacy and mechanism of action, the 810 nm wavelength correlates to the best outcomes in neurodegeneration studies.
Neuro Devices Pulsations
The Alpha pulses at 10 Hz, corresponding to the alpha brainwaves. The Gamma pulses at 40 Hz, which is a gamma brainwave. The Duo offers both options.
Brain entrainment at 10 Hz leads to a calm state. 40 Hz leads to a stimulated but focused state.
Neuro Transcranial Wavelengths
Each Neuro comes with a headset and intranasal applicator. The transcranial headset uses four LED modules to transmit 810 nm infrared into the brain.
The modules stimulate the brain’s default mode network, which is the active part of the brain when the brain is not engaged in thinking.
Stimulating this area creates flexibility in the brain that allows it to go from a thinking state and back to a resting state more easily. The flexibility appears to aid in cognition and memory gains.
Neuro Intranasal Wavelengths
Each Neuro intranasal device emits 810 nm infrared up the nose to the capillary network under the brain.
Blood treated here travels throughout the body and to the brain. It is thought that the improved mitochondrial function comes along for the ride.

Most people with the neurodegenerative concerns mentioned in this article will do very well with the Vielight Neuro Gamma device.
The Gamma’s 810 nm infrared wavelength penetrates therapeutically to the brain. The pulsation entrains the brain to fire in synchrony at 40 Hz, an area that is weak in people with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Very anxious people might do better with the Neuro Alpha, which delivers the same results without stimulating the 40 Hz brainwave activity and the corresponding energetic results. Alpha is more calming for the anxious person.
Those who are not sure about this choice should acquire the Neuro Duo. Use the Alpha on anxious days and the Gamma when anxiety is not the primary concern.
